I started my small business journey more than 20 years ago when I took over our family catering business, which I operated for nearly a decade alongside high school, then uni and my other part time jobs. I eventually left it to take over as General Manager of Jooce Niteclub, which at the time was the highest turnover nightclub in Victoria. From there I moved to the UK working for Whitbread PLC, a FTSE100 listed Pub Company and Brewery, where I helped open and manage 7 different multi-million pound pubs all around the South East of England, and served on 2 National Project committees developing the entertainment and food offerings for the entire Hogshead pub estate (150 + pubs).
Returning to Australia, I transitioned into events management, starting my own commercial conference development agency, in Sydney, and over the past decade have been on a fascinating learning journey into Australian business. I’ve researched and developed more than 30 national conferences, training seminars and trade shows covering topics ranging from energy, urban water and corporate security, through to currency hedging and M&A, and even Australian Film Production. I also maintained my academic studies, and have a Masters in Business Administration from the AGSM, at the time the combined business school of UNSW and Sydney Uni, and a host of other related IT, advertising and business qualifications.
Life, and family, eventually brought me back to Melbourne, where I started on a new journey – working as an account manager for Sensis, one of the largest advertising companies in Australia. I campaign managed nearly 2000 SME’s advertising programs during this period, which really helped consolidate my knowledge of conventional and digital marketing, and shaped my passion for helping other businesses grow.
